Wood History - 1850 house in Niagara Falls, NY

Memory Boxes made from wood reclaimed at: 8249 Troy Ave.

This is currently a private residence, however the wood was salvaged around 2005 when I lived at this location and added a serve over counter between the kitchen and dinning room.

Address: 8249 Troy Ave. NF, NY 14304

GPS Coordinates: (43° 4.578480' - 78° 58.181100’)

History of the reclaimed wood:
Civil war started in 1861, Abe Lincoln was said to have visited the Niagara Frontier (The actual “Falls”)  in 1857 before he was elected president. The house is located 1/4 mile from the Niagara river, and about 6 miles upstream of the Mighty Niagara Falls. Estimating this tree was roughly 26 years old in 1776, at the time of the American Independence from England.

Wood History - Thomas Truck & Casters CO., Keokuk, IA

Bottle Openers & Grill Paddles made from Keokuk, IA Red Oak

Solid red oak from Thomas Truck & Caster Company out of Keokuk, Iowa. This company, from the early 1900’s had ties to Buffalo, NY. They sold trucks (Carts) to General Electric and other area companies. The shipping invoice, dated 11/18/1971, survived stapled to the bottom of one of the carts until I bought these a few weeks ago.

My vision for these is to make tables and coffee tables out of the whole cart preserving even the fading stamped logo on the wood. Some are going to local restaurants for restoration and use in their dining areas. More information on the history of these carts is coming.

Wood History - Old Barn on Shawnee Rd. North Tonawanda, NY

Next Inventory of re-claimed wood:

History yet to be authored, however Mark and Jean donated a few 12in x12in Solid white oak beams. Unfortunately, this barn did not survive the weather and was dismantled and reclaimed by Mark and Jean. More information will be added as it becomes available.
